Own a Tamworth

Click here to join POAT

If you would like to have your own organic Tamworth, join our Peelham-Own-A-Tamworth (POAT) Club.

This gives you an opportunity to own your own Tamworth pig and have a lot of fun with other like-minded individuals and families while doing so !

As a POATer you, (and/or your family or friends), will become a member of a devoted community of individuals committed to the compassionate management of farm animals and the environment by engaging directly with our farming and food process through the ownership of your own organic pig !

In addition to the fun of being a POATer, you acquire your own pig as a 'weaner' at 10 weeks old. It is then effectively yours, as will be the products processed to your own specification (and by you if you choose), in our organically certified on-farm butchery.

The pig will be identified as yours with its own unique ear-tag. You effectively contract us to look after and feed your pig.

We want everybody to benefit from the fun of having their own Peelham Tamworth … but the demand for our organic, free-range Tamworth pork is huge and Tamworths are special because they take their time – they are SLOW (and we don’t PUSH them) – which of course is why they are a rare breed ! But we are SLOWLY increasing numbers !

We can accommodate 12 - 14 families / groups / individuals owning their own Peelham Tamworth each year.

The benefits of the club are that you meet and share the fun, pleasure and experiences of your Tamworth with other like-minded families during our POAT weekends.

So ….

POAT weekends

You can chose to enjoy your pig and learn about its farming and creating a wonderful product from  it during three to four of our POAT weekends (depending on how long it takes to fatten). These weekends (dates are planned and decided when you start), give you an opportunity to have a unique fun-countryside experience and;

  • See your pig’s progress
  • Enjoy the East Berwickshire countryside
  • Enjoy Peelham Fayre (we feed you !!)
  • Have fun with other POATing families
  • Become a part of a devoted community actively dedicated to compassionate farm and environmental management.

Weekends take place from Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon. We can advise on local accommodation for you – or you can camp on the farm. Depending on the stage your pig is at you can be involved in processing it to your own requirements – and take the products home (in chill-boxes).
