Winners of Scottish Food 'Oscar'

Peelham  has won a prestigious Scotland Food and Drink Excellence Award for its organic salamis, seeing off another 21 contenders in the red meat sector of these sought-after awards which are dubbed the Scottish food and drink ‘Oscars’.

Having been shortlisted in April with an elite group of Scottish Food Businesses which saw a record 239 entries for the 19 awards, Chris and Denise Walton on behalf of Cayley Walton Partners received their accolade at the awards ceremony held at the National Museum on 27th May before 800 guests and announced by broadcaster Kaye Adams.

An expert panel of judges found Peelham’s entry of a charcuterie platter of salamis to be overall ‘a very good range’ with ‘really good flavour and spice balance’ and commended it for its ‘high quality ingredients and ethical credentials’.  The judges were ‘impressed by the artisan feel to this product range offering distinctive flavours and considering it a good addition to a growing product sector’.

Commenting after the ceremony Chris and Denise with their business partner Amanda Cayley, expressed their ‘utter delight’ at receiving the award and that they were ‘blown away’ at having achieved it considering themselves to be ‘outsiders’ to win at such a prestigious event.  Denise added that it was ‘really excellent that Scotland Food and Drink are recognising the value of small aspiring artisan food producers like us and ours and others contribution to Scotland’s emerging food culture’ and that it ‘makes us particularly proud to have won this during Scotlands Year of Food and Drink’.
